A majority of the women believe that they look elegant after wearing stockings along with high-heeled boots. Many men agree.
Stockings are available in different forms, like silk or fishnet. Apart from being a fashion statement, stockings are also a necessity for women who love to be feminine and dress like a lady.
Stockings are not just an attire of the new millennium. Their history can be traced back 400 years. It was in 1589 when an English churchman named Reverend William invented the world’s first knitting machine and started making hosiery out of cotton, wool and silk. The machine was a national treasure.
In 1937, Jullian Hill, a United States scientist, invented the first synthetic fiber known as Polymer 6.6. This synthetic fiber was first shown to the public at the world’s fair in New York in 1939. And thus a legend - nylon - was born.
The first nylon stockings appeared in New York stores in 1940. Over 72,000 pairs were sold on the first day. Department stores throughout America saw a similar stampede. In the first year itself, 64 million pairs of stockings were sold.
Throughout the 40s and 50s, stockings were known as “fully fashioned". Stockings are enjoying a surge in popularity at the moment, as more and more women discover the feeling of luxury they offer.
